Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was conceived in Miami,
Florida on November 30, 1977. American electro-house musician as well as record
producer, D.J. Music executive. He is the third child of Chizuru and Rocky
Aoki's children. His father, who was a former wrestler, also co-founded the
chain of restaurants Benihana. He has two older siblings who are sisters Kana
who is commonly called Grace as her middle name Grace, as well as brother Kevin
(owner of Doraku Sushi). Half-sister Devon Aoki is a model and actress. He was
born in Newport Beach, California & graduated from Newport Harbor High
School in 1995, where he was a player on the varsity badminton team. After
having graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts, was enrolled at
UC Santa Barbara. degrees, one of which was in feminist studies, and the other
in sociology. He was a college student who produced records by himself and held
underground concerts in his Biko space at Santa Barbara Student Housing
Cooperative. The Pickle Patch was born as a concert venue. He was also active
in student activist activities during his time at UCSB. He established a
Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League Chapter on campus. In his early 20s, Dim
Mak had established his own record label, which he named Dim Mak after his idol
from childhood Bruce Lee. The label dropped I'm IN THE HOUSE in the year 2000,
which was a collaboration with the Zuper Blahq-alter ego of will.i.am. The
track made it to No. 29 in the U.K. Singles Chart in the first week of its
release. The song reached the top five on both the U.K. Indie Chart and the
U.K. Dance Chart. The song was featured in the MTV show Jersey Shore as well as
in the feature film Piranha and the trailer for Think Like A Man. Producer and
songwriter Lucas Secon confirmed in a interview in May 2010 with HitQuarters,
that he and Rivers Cuomo had recently worked w/ Aoki on one song. In 2012,
Pollstar designated him as the highest grossing dance artist in North America
from tours. His collaborations with artists include Afrojack, LMFAO and Linkin
Park, Will.i.am. Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke. BTS, Louis Tomlinson. Rise
Against. Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy. He is known for remixing artists
such as Kid Cudi.
