Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was the child of British parents Jacqueline Luesby, a lawyer and Chris Watson, a teacher, in Paris, France. At the age of five, old, she relocated to Oxfordshire where she went to Dragon School. At the age of six years old, Emma knew that she would like to become an actress and, for a period of years she was trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theater school where she learned about dancing, singing and acting. At ten years old, Emma had already been in Stagecoach productions and school productions. In 1999 casting started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001), the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. After eight consistent auditions Producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been chosen for the roles of the three leads, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the screen came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and was also the highest-grossing feature of 2001. The film was praised by critics and the performances of the three leading young actors. The highly distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph described her performance as "admirable". Then, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the Film. Film.
